In the early 1900s, a customer walked into Dr. George Bunting’s Baltimore pharmacy and announced that the greasy white sunburn remedy created there had “knocked” his eczema – and the name Noxema was born. This gallery explores the role of neighborhood pharmacies, where customers could pick up prescriptions, buy a camera, and have lunch served by a “soda jerk” at the counter, and how pharmacies have changed over time.
