The collections and archives at the Baltimore Museum of Industry are evocative reminders of the city’s great history. They explain, more effectively than any textbook, how the city developed into a thriving industrial center. Additionally, the collections explore how Baltimore’s residents—no matter their race, ethnicity, or occupation—contributed to this development.
Baltimore has long taken pride in an identity as a working-class town. This industrial heritage and spirit is central to Baltimore’s image of itself and accordingly, are preserved at the museum. The BMI has among the nation’s best and broadest collections of industrial items.
Visit the Baltimore Museum of Industry, and see just some of the more than 1,000,000 fascinating artifacts that form the collections. From a towering 104-foot tall Whirley crane standing watch over the museum’s campus, to small blue glass bottles used by pharmacists, the collections at the BMI will help you step back in time to the early days of a port city.
