The Legacy of Gilbert Sandler

Stories not only connect us to each other today, but also to those in our past, giving us a deeper understanding of who we are as a community. The BMI is privileged to serve as custodian for the archives of Baltimore’s premier storyteller, Gilbert Sandler.

Made up of more than 800 transcripts from Sandler’s popular Baltimore Stories radio series as well as hundreds of print articles written for local newspapers, this collection is a gem for anyone who loves stories.

Here you can listen his “big” stories from WYPR’s webpage.

To me the really important stories are the remarkable, or surprising, or ironic, or incredible, things that happen to people–rich and poor, young and old, lucky and unlucky. They aren’t covered in the daily newspaper, but to me they are the ‘big’ stories.  Gilbert Sandler
