Set to launch on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, Sparrows Point: an American Steel Story is a six-part series produced by award-winning producer Aaron Henkin in partnership with WYPR radio. The podcast is the newest part of the BMI’s Bethlehem Steel Legacy Project, a multi-year community engagement and preservation initiative to document the 125-year history of the steelmaking giant made possible through the generous support of Tradepoint Atlantic. Baltimore Museum of Industry Celebrates Opening of Outdoor Exhibition with Week of Programming About Workers
The Baltimore Museum of Industry (BMI) will open its next exhibition outside of the museum to allow for social distancing and open-air exploration during COVID-19. The exhibition, titled Women of Steel, opens on October 12 on the museum’s fence along Key Highway in South Baltimore and is free of charge to view. The exhibition will open during a “Week of Workers” at the museum full of programming dedicated to celebrating the history of workers in Baltimore. Read more here.

Baltimore Museum of Industry Receives Grant to Digitize Helen Bentley Film Collection
Baltimore Museum of Industry launched a project to conserve the film collection of Helen Bentley’s long running television program The Port That Built a City and State. Bentley hosted the weekly program, which ran on WMAR from 1950-1965. This work is made possible by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences (IMLS) through the Museums for America program, and from a bequest from Bentley’s estate. Read more here.

BMI Creates & Distributes FREE Activity Kits
The BMI announces the development of City Kits, boxed activities for school children based on the learning they would typically experience while on field trips to the museum. The kits are inspired by the BMI’s award-winning Kids’ Cannery program, an immersive experience for grades 3-8, and will be handed out at no charge to school children on June 3 at food distribution sites located at city schools. Funding for this project was provided by the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore. Read more here.

As Baltimore says its official farewell to former U.S. Congresswoman Helen Delich Bentley in public and private memorial services, the Baltimore Museum of Industry (BMI) will open a tribute display of select dresses and hats bequeathed to the museum by Ms. Bentley. Known as much for being stylish as she was for her groundbreaking career as a maritime reporter and elected official, Bentley wore garments that reflected her civic pride in supporting American designers. New Exhibition Opens Exploring Link Between Loss of Manufacturing Jobs and Recent Protests
The BMI today unveils its newest temporary exhibition, Changing Baltimore: Share Your Voice. The exhibition was inspired by a Tweet from Orioles Executive Vice President John Angelos during the protests in the wake of the death of Freddie Gray which read in part,“ . . .
